RALLY OF FIAT 124 SPORT SPIDER AT THE GROTTA DEL VENTO
At the Grotta del Vento the vintage cars rallies continue at a rapid pace. After that of the Lancia Aprilia two Sundays past, on the 10th June it was the turn of the FIAT 124 sport spider. They are two completely different models: the first, designed in person by Vincenzo Lancia, was produced between 1937 and 1949, across the second world war. Particular detail was taken with the aerodynamics, it was the first car with body chassis. The second, produced between 1965 and 1985, twenty years later, is a sports car with a modern and eye-catching design, whose bodywork is by Pininfarina, who in designing this model was ahead of the times, making a car which fifty years on stills looks up to date and in keeping with the style of cars today. The Rally of the 10th June, organized by the National Register of Fiat 124 Sport Spider, an association operating since 1991 with headquarters in Modena, had a good 36 cars taking part in the rally, all in such perfect condition to appear as if they had just come out of the factory.
The crew made a visit in the fabulous underground world of the Grotta del Vento where, under spotlights, they could admire fantastic sculptures created through centuries and millenniums by drops and films of water flowing over the rocks
Outside they remained in the Visitor’s Centre for a while where, apart from the ticket office and information point, also hosts a photographic exhibition which illustrates the history of the tourist development of the Grotta del Vento. The large display of minerals and fossils from all over the world was greatly admired.
