La Grotta di Stiffe è la risorgenza attiva di un sistema sotterraneo che inizia dagli inghiottitoi situati 600 metri più in alto, sull’Altopiano delle Rocche, in provincia dell’Aquila. Attrezzata con comodi sentieri, è caratterizzata dalla continua presenza di un copioso fiume sotterraneo, interrotto in due punti da fragorose cascate che precipitano nelle acque tumultuose di piccoli laghi sotterranei.
Presso Riolo Terme (RA) è parzialmente attrezzata per le visite semituristiche una grotta di grande estensione nella cui parte iniziale sono stati rinvenuti importanti reperti archeologici. Una vicina cava di gesso ha intercettato in più punti la grotta, senza però danneggiare la parte visitabile.
Questa volta presentiamo una grotta la cui principale caratteristica è quella di svilupparsi all’interno di una massa cristallina di gesso, anziché di calcare. Si tratta della Grotta di Onferno (RA), un vero gioiello per chi sa apprezzare gli aspetti più insoliti della morfologia carsica profonda.
